Dear members,
The Iranian Association at the University of Toronto (IAUT) is honoured to co-organise a fundraiser BBQ to help the victims of the recent floods in Pakistan. All proceedings of this fundraiser will go to the Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign* which will distribute the proceedings among the individuals and families affected in Pakistan..
Event: BBQ Fundraiser for Victims of Floods in Pakistan
Date: Friday, August 27, 2010
Time: 6pm-9pm (those who are fasting can also join us for Iftar)
Location: Windmill Line Coop (125 Scadding Avenue)
The severe flooding that hit Pakistan 3 weeks ago has affected more than 20 million people. The state's infrastructure, already dilapidated and rotten, has been even further destroyed by the catastrophe. Millions have been displaced in this disaster, called by the United Nations as one of the worst floods in history. The losses suffered are said to exceed those of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan, and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
At a crucial time like this, not enough help is reaching Pakistan. Compared to other recent catastrophes of similar scales, Pakistan has received much less international relief. As students, workers, and youth, we see it as our duty to give a helping hand to the people of Pakistan in this time of crisis.
Please come and donate generously! You can also contact us to sponsor this event. We would greatly appreciate any donations you might want to make in the form of food or other ingredients for the BBQ. If you want to help but cant come to this specifying BBQ, please contact Arash Azizi at 6473308170 or
