Dear members, Iranian Association at the University of Toronto is proud to co-sponsor “B.B.Baff Dance: Dance on Bakhtiai-Persian Carpet.” B.B. Baff is a type of carpet made by the Bakhtiari people of Iran. The B.B.Baff Dance is a narrative dance piece based on an old Iranian fable, a fairytale about the Bakhtiari’s greatest celebration of the year, Norooz, the Iranian New Year. Event: “B.B.Baff Dance: Dance on Bakhtiai-Persian Carpet” Date: Saturday, February 6, 2010 Time: 7:30pm - 10:30pm Location: Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts 10268 Yonge Street
For tickets, please see below: By Phone: 905.787.8811 The B.B.Baff Dance will be performed by the Khorshid Khanoom Dance Group based in Montreal.* The choreography of this dance is based on traditional Bakhtiari dances, dating back to many centuries ago. In some pieces of the B.B.Baff dance, authentic Bakhtiari moves have been used, in others, movements have been adapted to the story but they still have the essence of the original dances; some dance pieces are in pure classical Iranian dance. The body language and movements of the Bakhtiari people have also been used in this adaptation. B.B.Baff portrays significant elements of the daily lives of the Bakhtiari people, from birth to death in any Celebration & Mourning, for Fear & Hope, Sadness & Happiness, Peace & War. …all are captured through the weaving of a carpet. In B.B.Baff, spring has yet to come, and the New Year will not unfold until the Bakhtiari women weave the biggest and most beautiful carpet of all. This carpet will be unrolled under spring’s feet and brings hope to all. B.B.Baff contains 12 Dance Pieces: For more information on Khorshid Khanoom Dance Group please visit: www.khorshidkhanoomdance.com *The Iranian dance group Khorshid Khanoom (ms.sun) was founded by Aram Bayat in 1988 in Montreal.
